Read it in one night

Erin, I was slow to pick up the book, but I read it in one sitting. It was terrific. Now, as I expected, I've got to go back and re-read "Little Women." It'll be hard to reconcile this grim, lusty March with Alcott's March. It also puts a whole new spin on Marmee.

Read it in one night?! I must be retarded.

I LOVE Marmee.

Do you really think March is grim?

I guess I need to get started on it now.

Well, I guess he's generally benevolent toward people, but it's all the gruesome things he recalls that is hard to jibe with the girls at home and their squawks over embroidering.

Plus, he masturbates.

Mr. March masturbates! Mr. March masturbates!

Are we a highbrow book club? Can I say that?

I find it amusing that you apparently find it more noteworthy that he masturbates than that he — the father of little women — has an adulterous affair with a black woman. Hehe

I'm sure all the little women were masturbating, too. Alcott just didn't feel the need to mention it.

HA! Now I've got to read it immediately!
