I don't think it's been shallow. It's a hard book to discuss. I have a lot of theories about stuff that goes on in the stories but very few firm convictions or explanations. Sometimes, to echo Erin's earlier comment, I just don't feel moved to make any particular pronouncements on the writing, even though I mostly enjoy it. Sometimes I sense that Haslett really just wants us to feel something after reading a story vs. know something, and feelings are harder to articulate than knowledge.
You've done a fine job. This book has been sort of a challenge to discuss. I think Kim's right about the stories evoking feelings. It's been interesting to read.
