Into Afghanistan

Yikes....my first pick! I was enthralled with "Kite Runner" and have been waiting for another Hosseini novel. This has only been out since May but I can wait no longer! It is only available in Hardcover right now, sorry about that.

I think there are some similarities to Kite Runner, a country in turmoil (obviously) and an unlikely friendship that tests cultural norms, but this time between two women. I hope you enjoy.
Do we start discussion the first part of December?

Excellent. Can't wait to read it. I love stoories from that part of the world. I recently read "The Places in Between," a travel book by a Scottish guy who WALKED across Afghanistan. I always meant to read "Kite Runner," and now there's already a movie.

We can start Dec. 1. We had been doing one book a month, but we could do every three weeks or something, if this group reads faster. I'm a book freak so I'm always rarin' to go.

Oh! I friend of mine, to whom I recommeded "Kite Runner," mailed me her copy of "Places in Between." This gives me motivation to read both! I'm fascinated by that part of the world too. Well, by the whole world actually. It's out anthropology major in me.

Oh, enjoy "Places." It'll make you want to traipse all over the world.

Have you seen that movie "Kandahar," which is set in Afghanistan? It's really stunning.
