Alice

What did you make of Alice? Was she crazy? Or was she just pretending to be crazy to gain a little extra freedom? Why did she hide her artist talent until she was free?

I think maybe she was a little crazy, but competent enough, as you implied, to see that crazy had its advantages. Maybe she didn't realize the value of the art she created. Maybe she was doing it just for herself and not for an ultimate audience and never had a need to share before. Or maybe she did know the value of her art and felt that sharing it would doom it somehow.
