"Laid to rest" is a telling phrase.

Interesting that he depicts himself as Frankenstein, a monster created by men. He also has the zipper scar that we associate with Frankenstein being pieced together. And in the last frame he's not really himself again, though he feels so much better! He's just a cheerful looking Frankenstein! (like he's kind of acknowledging that he's permanently changed for the better but the pain will always be with him in some form).
