What a great question! I adored Tammy, but I would have cast my vote then and now for a candidate who really wanted to run. I would have disliked Tracy as her peer, but like her classmates, I would have recognized she really wanted it and needed it in lieu of normal high school friendships and experiences.
What's troubling me is do I switch my vote to Paul if I know Tracy trashed the posters? I had nothing against him but still think I would have voted Tracy.
Oh, great point about trashing the posters! Not sure I would have let that knowledge upset my vote in high school, assuming Tracy was my choice. It would definitely upset my vote as an adult. Funny how our moral compass develops (or doesn't) between adolescence and adulthood. Do you remember the total indignation and outrage you felt when something was "unfair" or "unjust" as a kid ... how that slowly morphs into a deflated kind of doesn't-surprise-me-a-damn-bit resignation as you age?
I definitely find Tammy the most appealing now. Not sure whom I would have gone for then ... honestly, probably whichever one I personally liked the best, regardless of qualifications (Boo! I know). Probably Paul.
Ditto on Paul. Pretty sure in high school elections I voted for the people I liked. Do high school students have qualifications? I honestly am not sure what the student council did or what would have qualified someone for the job.
But I am pretty sure I would have been captivated by anyone who got up and said, "Who cares?" in their stump speech.
