What did you think of the very conversational, slangy writing style? Did you like all the Spanglish and references to geek culture, or did it distract from the story?
I mostly liked that element. I think it added to the authenticity of time and place. Sometimes it was annoying to have to look up stuff, I'll admit. I really enjoyed the footnotes about Dominican personages/history, but they could be distractingly long.
Yeah, I mostly liked it, especially after you found the annotations and I could actually tell what I was reading. The historical notes were really crucial, I think, to putting the story in perspective.
